Cameron Norrie earned the most notable victory of his career by coming back from a set down to beat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Although he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph signifies Norrie's first ever success over a current world No 1.

"Huge. Extremely important for me," said Norrie, who joins as the fifth British man in history to beat a global number one. "Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to enjoy my tennis in the closing months of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the most significant success of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the top player and arguably the most in-form player in the world right now."

Norrie, seeded 31st in the world, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine straight final appearances and 17 successive elite tournament wins, which marked the finest stretch of outcomes in the Spanish star's early professional path.

The top seed seemed to be moving confidently to a win at the start as he cruised past the opening set. Nevertheless, Norrie steadily fought his way into contention by executing with improved accuracy and engaging the Spaniard into lengthy, physical rallies.
