Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a former doctor now faces charges for committing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Investigation
These allegations follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents outline the forty-five charges include:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
