Armed assailants have taken the life of an instructor and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a female high school in north-western Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.

The criminal group breached the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at around 4 AM local time on the beginning of the work week, police confirmed.

The assailants "engaged police personnel on duty in a firefight" before scaling the perimeter fence and taking the pupils captive from their dormitory, an official report indicated.
