Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
