New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
