President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Gatherings across the state have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Support

Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.

Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments

Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and cease providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to speak to the family.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” he told the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
