The Evolution of a Movement is often defined by specific steps.

1. The Big Idea

A charismatic leader or figureheads introduce a revolutionary approach that promises a panacea for alienated and vulnerable people.

And so it goes. Preparations are underway to confront the system overseas. Pressure is mounting. Smoke is rising from the out-houses. One individual, exposed, nervous, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET displayed prominently as a statement, has come staggering into view and is taken aside with discretion for a temporary assignment at Derbyshire.

Do you ever miss the early days, when optimism reigned? The days of Bazball 1.0, of uninhibited aggression.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Movement founders promise a reboot, hope for a future, love, success among a group who all believe in the method.

What did it represent at first? Players celebrating enjoying success. Tattoos. Forearms. Determination. Elite male wellness energy. Of course, The team will claim it’s not a real term, ironically since it’s not recognized, what was that spectacle?

But we know what it is. It’s the player attempting a move so unconventional it’s beyond belief. It’s the thrill of Ben Stokes at his peak, a look that says: thoughtful warrior, rugged appearance, untamed style, so authentically Modern Savage you wouldn’t be surprised to glance over and find him positioned on the ground stripped to the waist embracing nature.

It’s the batsman often seen to talk in press conferences, resembling a happy little woodland creature formally attired, saying stuff like we’re challenging norms. Certainly, the atmosphere, initially, was only good energy.

3. The Growth Phase

Growth phase. Unity enforced via memorization of key phrases. These principles can appear contradictory to prove commitment.

Does anyone else feel? The reaction, the anger, the feeling of letdown post-defeat seems too strong, overdone. The batting collapsed during the match, as history shows. They were torn apart while bowling during a brief period as plans unraveled, outplayed by the batsman imitating their style effectively, adjusting to the pitch, a man playing with a kind of light around him.

Currently, we see the criticism, the frustration, the view of the sport as a disgrace. The feeling seems to be that losing isn’t enough, they must be humbled, to be cleansed, flame-throwered, overwhelmed by the vengeful purity of the pace attack, the conventional tactics of Scott Boland, seen enjoying achievements modestly similar to getting a nice new fishing rod. How will they respond?

4. The Backlash Phase

Problems arise due to setbacks. Yet, mistakes are denied. It begins to thrive on hostility externally.

The fact remains, half a week out from the second Test, we’ve entered a critical juncture in the journey of this movement. They might succeed in the next Test through aggressive play. Alternatively, failure may follow. Should they fail it seems we may see the death cult phase.

Ahead of this, there are two things to note regarding this. Previously, at the start, of light and heat, I wrote an article suggesting Bazball was a cult. Criticism followed, which demonstrated as it’s known a method to show that it’s not a closed group is if supporters send hundreds of furiously one-eyed messages rejecting criticism of the beliefs.

Recent events in the last few days are equally notable. Criticism of the approach has now become the cult. We have a uniformly angry internet, angry English pundits, pictures of upset travelling fans missing out on play, reminiscent of people wanting fairness.

Meanwhile, exists the larger scene of Australia’s more nuanced ingrained annoyance with the aggressive tourists, stating, your cherished traditions and have honed as one way of separating yourself from the opposition, well, it’s all a bit of a gag after all.

And this is the real point. It’s all cults. The approach was a phenomenon since the sport itself is insular. Or at least, the team has long been exclusive, a circle, a garden party, a closed world with a long history of opaque and ritualistic cult history supporting it. It has long been where influence is guarded. It’s the British pastime of England, the pioneering brand. And guess what, the nation has its own culture, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a place that literally still has a king.

The team have been enclosed in this system since childhood. Seeking change, to create a less brutal environment, they are just repeating their upbringing, creating another a bubble, a limited community, but doing it this time with a new team and a leader encouraging individuality if you fit the mold.

Stay present. Confront risks. But no matter how fast and far you run, things stay similar.

With this mind, it might be appropriate to offer compassion for the approach, to appreciate its good points, which are significant. How to define it? Creating a sense of freedom. Defying norms. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
